Doom: Eternal Initial Thoughts

After finishing the 2016 reboot of this historic franchise I was one of the fan boys who could not wait for this next game. Let’s take a step back for a quick moment here. I am 26 years old. I never played the original doom games. I remember sitting in my brothers bedroom ( he’s 7 years older then I am ) watching him and his friends play koi it though. And the young whipper snapper that i was I knew someday would be my day to play these games.
now fast forward to 2016 and that boyhood dream of mine became a reality. And 2016 reboot version did not disappoint in the slightest. It was action packed from the jump and some of the things I liked best about it was how it straddled the line of cutting edge 2016 video games and that nostalgia of the 90’s that I remember watching as well.

now fast forwarding to this past weekend and Doom Eternal. I put in about 4 hours or so so this is literally an initial thoughts post which is what I headlined this article as. But for initial thoughts I have a Few things to say. All of them good. First of all this game takes what 2016 started and built on it in every way. Those demons you loved fighting? there are all of those plus even more variations of them now. Those power ups you loved finding through out the map? There are more of them now! It’s everything the 2016 relaunch was plus more with even more content then before. I love the hidden rooms and labyrinth style gates you go into with the purple keys you find ( name of them is escaping me right now from all the adrenaline pumping through my body as I just finished about a 3 hour Doom gaming binge before I sat down to write this ).
My most enjoyed moments so far is The in depth map building as well as the upgrade trees for weapons and power ups. Also the grenade shooter they give you now and the flame thrower type thing. This game is just so much extra from 2016 it has me geeking out like a kid on Christmas!

I did love the online mode in the 2016 version. I played enough of it to say I loved it. About 20 hours or so. I loved the old school unreal tournament style ammo and health pick ups as well weapon and armor grab points. This version from what I’ve read is much different then that so I will post another blog here sometime after I play some of that. but for now these are my initial thoughts.
